A cinematic sister work
Why is it important to remind me of what you think I am
What is it about deviations from the norm that society finds so uncomfortable? Why are some spaces easier to enter than others? What does it take for a society to not merely tolerate but truly appreciate the beauty in human uniqueness?
In an exploration of these pressing questions, and as a companion piece to the stage production of Edward II, director Therese Willstedt presents five documentary short films. Collectively, they carry the poignant title: Why Do You Need to Remind Me of What You Think I Am?
These films offer a candid glimpse into the lived experiences of five LGBTQIA+ individuals navigating Denmark. Each story highlights the subtle and profound adjustments they make, both consciously and unconsciously, as they strive to fit into societal norms that often feel constraining. These films will, hopefully, create spaces. Spaces where diverse identities can exist without constant scrutiny, and where deviation is not just accepted but celebrated.
