About the play
Please note that the play is performed in Danish.
Everyone is in love with the beautiful and compliant Bianca. The problem is that her father won’t allow anyone to marry her until his eldest daughter, Katarina, is wed.
But no one wants to marry Katarina. She’s seen as difficult, sharp-tongued and unruly. A shrew. No one except for Petruchio, who enjoys a bit of fun and mischief. He makes a bet with his friends on whether he can tame the shrew once and for all.
This performance is inspired by Shakespeare’s comedy of the same name and delves into the closed-off world of men, where masculinity and male camaraderie are subject to negotiation. It’s both a humorous and provocative exploration of power and desire. Of the need to dominate, and the longing to belong.
The performance has been created as part of a comprehensive process called BETTY UDVIKLER in collaboration with the Bikuben Foundation.
