RAPING DENMARK <3 (OR: HOW I ROSE UP AND CONQUERED THE KINGDOM)

Denmark is under attack! An attack staged by a Norwegian who has come to set fire to our national self-image.

Following a series of provocative political performances in Norway, Norwegian theatre provocateur Even Torgan now turns his attention to Denmark. His theory is simple:
We are more radicalised than we think.

At the Danish School of Creative Writing in Copenhagen, a group of young writers come together, determined to change the world through words. But when questions of racism, freedom of speech, identity and Danishness divide the class, the school turns into a battleground.

RAPING DENMARK <3 (or: how I rose up and conquered the kingdom) is a theatrical assault on the Danish self-image. An investigation into radicalisation, cultural guilt and political silence.
It is about a Denmark that celebrates itself as free, open and tolerant, while the boundaries of what we can say about “the others” are constantly shifting. Because who has the power to define Denmark? And who gets to be the good guy in the story about the intolerant?

Even Torgan has made a name for himself as the rising enfant terrible of Norwegian theatre. At Edison, together with playwright Tarjei Sandvik Moe, he invites the audience directly into the performance and confronts us with an uncomfortable question:

Is Denmark really as tolerant as we tell ourselves? Or has radicalisation already moved in without us noticing?
