About the performance
Signe Fabricius, who previously created the hugely popular dance narratives ‘I am Gold’ and ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ at the Betty Nansen Theatre, now places two of world history’s famous rivals in the middle of a vibrant dance floor.
Power trumps morality in the feud between Mary, Queen of Scotland, and Elizabeth I of England – one of the most dramatic power struggles in British history, marked by rivalry, religion, intrigue and betrayal. They know that without the love of the people, they must die.
A worldview that has not changed much since the 1500s. Influence is still about seducing the people. Like the queens of history, today’s demagogues crave recognition.
Civilisation, populism and the corrupting effect of power are bathed in sparkling spotlights, and the history of the queens rises from the dance floor and becomes an image of world leaders and human patterns.
Here, the two women’s destinies are pitted against each other in a heated battle dance, told through steps, bodies and words. The winner takes it all.
