About the performance
How will it all end? Will we be able to sense it when it happens? Will we get a warning? Or will it just be BANG! out of the blue? Is it something we do together, or do we have to stand there all alone, just before it all ends?
BEFORE THE END is a dance performance about the moment before everything collapses. A dystopian carnival, an absurd comedy, an SOS from a nightmare you can’t wake up from.
The performance is directed by Chilean director Marco Layera, who can now be experienced in Denmark for the first time. With an uncompromising and intense physical language that goes straight to the body, he has made his mark as one of the most interesting voices on the international scene.
In BEFORE THE END, he depicts with both poetry and grotesque humor the physical feeling of living on the brink of collapse. The panic, the fear, the release, and the waiting hope that someone will do something.
BEFORE THE END invites the audience into the most frightening moment we can imagine, to feel the sensation of standing on the edge – and dare to stay there, together.
Come before it ends.
NOTE: The performance includes periods of high sound levels and a sequence with strobe lighting.
The performance was created as part of an overall process called BETTY UDVIKLER in collaboration with the Bikuben Foundation. Here, performances are developed across art forms over a longer period of time through workshops and collective thinking. Before the End was developed in a collaborative process with all participants.

After talks
Behind the scenes of BEFORE THE END
– after talk with dancers from the Danish Dance Theatre
What is it like to dance in BEFORE THE END? How was the performance created? And what is it like to be a professional dancer with the Danish Dance Theatre?
On selected days, the Danish Dance Theatre invites the audience to a conversation with dancers from the Danish Dance Theatre.
Stay in your seats and listen from 8:10 p.m. as two dancers talk about the creative process behind the performance and everyday life as a dancer in the company. There will also be an opportunity to ask the dancers questions.
The conversation will last approximately 30 minutes.
