TIDSÅNDERNES HUS

A Danish artist travels abroad to work wonders at a renowned theatre. But what begins as a triumph develops into a scandal: she is thrown out of her own hit production, accused of both disgracing her country and mistreating her colleagues.

Over the course of three rapid-fire stagings, writer and performer Madame Nielsen – playing herself in the leading role – will dramatise her controversial novel TIDSÅNDERNES HUS as a live theatrical experiment.

Each evening, the story is transformed again and again, with every version becoming more radical, more unpredictable and more star-studded than the last. What might at first resemble classic autofiction is blown apart from within, becoming a many-voiced show trial in which Madame Nielsen allows an ever-growing number of her accusers, judges, victims and offenders to have their say, brought to life by some of Denmark’s most accomplished actors.

TIDSÅNDERNES HUS is not an attempt to prove who was right, but an attempt to understand what actually happened: between people, within a theatre, and in a cultural climate where everyone is fighting for the right to define the truth. A tragedy about those who are determined to do the right thing at any cost – and who, for that very reason, keep repeating the same mistakes.
