Code of Conduct
The Betty Nansen Theatre create performing art that blends acting, dance, music, imagery, and words. Co-creation and care are the foundation of our way of working — both in the (performing) art we create and in our organization.
Under the current leadership, we challenge the traditional boundaries of a theatre. We experiment with new ways of producing performances, fostering artistic collaborations, and developing our arts outreach—for example, through formats such as “sister works,” art posters, events, and Betty Develops.
We see ourselves as an active part of the public conversation and are committed to being a sustainable workplace both socially and environmentally. We work to give art a voice in public debates, not necessarily through op-eds or panels, but by showing new ways in which art and theatre can look like, and how art can contribute to sectors beyond our own.
To ensure that our daily work reflects our values, we have developed a code of conduct, which we share with the many freelancers and external partners we collaborate with. The code of conduct brings together a set of principles and rules that we aim to uphold.
Code of Conduct
Respect and Tolerance
We treat each other with respect and regard diversity as a strength. We are committed to equal rights and fair treatment for everyone, and we take active responsibility for addressing discrimination, sexism, racism, bullying, and abuse of power. The practical implementation of this commitment is outlined in our Work Environment Action Plan
Collaboration and Responsibility
We all share responsibility for fostering a positive work environment—both physically and mentally. Every employee has a duty to inform management if they encounter conflicts, unsafe situations, a colleague in distress, or other challenges in their daily work. Being part of the theatre also involves actively participating in our workplace community, including social engagement. Knowing each other as people helps us work better together.
Safety and Security
We strive to maintain a healthy and safe work environment where everyone can thrive and grow. This requires speaking up when we encounter situations that may be unsafe, harmful, or pose a risk of injury. All employees have access to the theatre’s staff benefits, including massages, vaccinations, and referrals to an occupational psychologist when needed. We handle personal information securely and in compliance with applicable laws.
Sustainability
We place great importance on both social and environmental sustainability. That is why we actively work to make the theatre more sustainable in our operations and productions. We track our CO₂ footprint not only in our daily operations but also for each performance, using the results to drive continuous improvement.
How we do it
All employees have access to specific action plans and working methods for the various areas, so that together we can ensure a safe and sustainable working environment.
