The new Betty

The world is not simple – and neither should theatre be.

With Niels Erling and Nanna Jelsgaard as its new artistic director duo, a new chapter begins at Betty Nansen Teatret. Together, they want to create a theatre that dares to engage with the world we live in and insists that we can understand it better. Together.

At Betty, we create critical contemporary theatre that gets under your skin, creates friction and challenges the truths we take for granted. Here, the world is allowed to be complicated, and for one evening, we can step into someone else’s point of view without necessarily having to agree.

This is reflected in this season’s productions, where we ask who holds the power, how far we are willing to go to get more, who owns the truth about a family, and just how tolerant Denmark really is. From major classics to new writing and experimental theatre, what unites them are productions that feel necessary – and that you are more than welcome to argue about on your way home.

We have brought together the ideas behind the new Betty in our manifesto, LET’S GET WISER TOGETHER. Because we dream of a theatre where we can gain a deeper understanding of the world – and of ourselves within it.
